About CSM

The Catholic Students’ Movement (CSM) is a student organization dedicated to fostering faith, leadership, and holistic personal growth among young people on campus. Inspired by Christian values, the movement welcomes all students to participate in its activities while serving as a special platform for Catholic students to deepen their faith and strengthen their commitment to society.
CSM promotes the overall development of students by encouraging growth in their spiritual, intellectual, cultural, and social lives. Through prayer gatherings, retreats, liturgical celebrations, and faith formation programmes, members are encouraged to build a meaningful relationship with God and live according to Gospel values.
The movement also focuses on nurturing leadership, creativity, and critical thinking by organizing workshops, value-based training sessions, awareness programmes, seminars, and cultural activities. These initiatives help students develop confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Equally important is CSM’s commitment to social engagement. Students are inspired to serve others through outreach programmes, community service initiatives, and activities that promote compassion, justice, and social responsibility. By combining faith with action, CSM encourages its members to become responsible citizens and compassionate leaders who make a positive impact on society.
With the active involvement of faculty coordinators and student representatives from different departments, CSM provides a supportive environment where students can grow academically, spiritually, and personally while contributing meaningfully to campus life and the wider community.

The Three Core Dimensions of CSM

 Faith & Spiritual Growth

CSM provides opportunities for students to strengthen their spiritual life through Eucharistic celebrations, prayer meetings, retreats, recollections, and other faith-based programmes. These experiences encourage students to deepen their relationship with God while embracing Christian values in their daily lives.

OLD AGE HOME VISIT

The Catholic Students Movement (CSM) unit of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology (SJCET), Palai organized a heartfelt outreach visit to the Don Bosco Old Age Home, Kadanad, spreading warmth and companionship among the elderly residents.

The executive members of the unit spent meaningful time interacting with the 28 residents of the home, engaging in friendly conversations and listening to their life stories. The atmosphere was filled with smiles and laughter as the students connected with the elders, creating moments of genuine joy and emotional bonding.

A special highlight of the visit was sharing lunch together. Sitting and dining with the residents fostered a beautiful sense of togetherness and mutual respect. The simple act of sharing a meal reflected the core values of love, compassion, and social responsibility that the Movement upholds.

The visit concluded on a deeply fulfilling note, with students describing the experience as inspiring and enriching.

CSM Pilgrimage to Vellichan Mala

The Catholic Students’ Movement (CSM), SJCET Palai, organized a spiritual pilgrimage to Vellichan Mala, Aruvithura, on the 40th Friday of Lent, offering students an opportunity to deepen their faith and strengthen their Christian fellowship. As part of the pilgrimage, the members prayerfully participated in the Way of the Cross, reflecting on the Passion and Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The devotion was led by Fr. Jithu Mathew, Director of CSM, SJCET Palai, whose guidance enriched the spiritual experience of the participants.

The pilgrimage inspired students to grow in faith while fostering unity, devotion, and a deeper sense of Christian commitment. The programme concluded successfully with the wholehearted participation of CSM members, leaving everyone spiritually renewed and inspired

A Journey of Faith – Malayattoor Pilgrimage

Our pilgrimage to the sacred hill of Malayattoor was a beautiful journey of faith, prayer, and togetherness. We began by visiting the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Pilgrim Church, seeking God’s blessings before embarking on the Kurishinte Vazhi (Way of the Cross). At every station, we paused in prayer and reflection, allowing each step to deepen our faith.

Reaching the hilltop, we were welcomed by the revered Golden Cross Rock, where tradition holds that St. Thomas traced the Holy Cross with his finger. We lit candles in prayer, and visited the revered footprint of St. Thomas and the other holy sites, each reminding us of his enduring legacy.

The pilgrimage was further enriched through our participation in the Holy Mass, filling our hearts with peace and spiritual renewal. Though our feet were weary as we descended the hill, our hearts felt lighter, as if every burden had been surrendered in prayer.

More than a pilgrimage, it was a journey that strengthened our faith and united us through prayer, mutual support, and joyful fellowship. We returned with hearts full of gratitude, cherished memories, and the blessings of St. Thomas to guide us on our journey ahead.

Renewed in Faith: CSM SJCET’s Blessed Pilgrimage to Velankanni

Walking in the footsteps of faith, the Catholic Student Movement (CSM) of SJCET recently completed a spiritually transformative pilgrimage to the miraculous shrine of Velankanni. Guided by the Holy Spirit and accompanied by Rev. Fr. Jeethu Mathew alongside faculty advisors Anu Pius and Liz George, a dedicated group of 17 students set out from Kottayam on May 30th to seek the maternal intercession of Mother Mary.

The journey was as much about internal renewal as it was about physical travel. Through three dedicated fellowship meetings held across the duration of the trip, students engaged in deep spiritual discourse, aligning their personal goals with the greater mission of the CSM. These gatherings ensured that every step taken in Velankanni was rooted in prayer and purpose.

Upon arriving in the holy town, the pilgrims traced the sacred history of the Marian apparitions. A profound moment of grace occurred at 10:30 AM, when the group gathered at the historic Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health for a private Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Jeethu Mathew. The Eucharistic celebration served as the anchor of the trip, binding the students together in Christ’s love.

The day was filled with moments of divine connection—from witnessing the towering Most Sacred Heart of Jesus statue to collecting holy water at Mathai Kulam, the exact site where Our Lady first appeared to a humble milk vendor. The students concluded their visit with time for silent reflection and reconciliation at the Confession Church, cleansing their spirits before the journey home.

Returning to Kottayam on the morning of June 1st, the students brought back more than just memories; they returned with a renewed zeal to live out their Catholic faith. Recharged by the grace of God and the fellowship of their peers, the CSM SJCET branch is ready to continue its mission, spreading the Good News and acting as a testament to His enduring love on campus.
